Harker spent the day waiting for a builder who didn't turn up! We were hoping to avoid losing too many balls in the many lakes, but a lot of them had dried up over the hot summer and others were at a very low level. They had even put a blue ribbon in a ditch to simulate water so we didn't feel to let down!
We were pushed back to a later tee time due to their seniors having more than expected for their competition, but given plenty of free balls on the driving range to warm up whilst we waited. This led to queues waiting for the bays as there were not enough to go round. I think those who wanted to did manage to partake of the facility.
So off to the first tee we went to enjoy a course with some varied holes and a few long walks between tees. This time no one got lost and we all managed to complete our rounds, with mixed results, as usual. I did hear a rumour that one of our number tried to play out of a partially dried lake only to be splattered with mud!
The 2nd hole was a short par 4 of just 248 yards, which I'm sure Dave Leak would have reached with his tee shot if he had been there. It was a bit different as the fairway stopped well should of the green and there was a patch of rough across where you would expect the fairway to be in front of the green! Still your captain managed to birdie it, which was the only bright spot in his round.
The 18th finished in front of the club house over a lake and so the first group of three spent the time waiting for the remaining four's watching them trying to avoid it, although at least one ball did go in.

The group after the meal |
Once all in we enjoyed our Ham Egg & Chips in the club house once again a good day out.
So to the results, below are the top three in each category the full results being in the results section elsewhere on the site. Brian Monnery ended up with the trophy as he tied with Phil Edwards, but Phil had won at Badgemore and was therefore not entitled to it again this year. The putting was shared between Rob Strange (again) and Graham Harding, whilst Brian Monnery walked off with the nearest the pin.
Stableford & TOFs trophy results
- = Phil Edwards & Brian Monnery with 42 points
- Alex Fraser with 39 points
- Terry Stacey with 38 points
- = Rob Strange & Graham Harding with 29 puts
- = Terry Stacey & Kevin Barnes with 31 puts
- = Clifford Bosley, Phil Edwards & Eric Knight all with 32 puts
We had four chances here, or five if you count the short par 4 2nd. However we still only had 5 people hitting the green in one!
- Brian Monery with 9.06m
- Brian White with 11.06m
- Mike Inman with 11.36m
