What a Scorcher - Kirtlington 26th June 2018

What a very hot day out that was, 13 off us enjoyed a course where the sun shone all day and we had very little breeze, so much so that a few umbrellas were used to provide some shade during the afternoon.

Action from the first Tee

The day started with Dave Leak cuddling and kissing one of the local lady members, he said he knew her years ago from Hinksey Heights!!  We then had our coffee & bacon baps and proceeded out onto the course.  Due to the hot weather we were always looking for shade, however that meant several members enjoying the trees.  The course did have some wide fairways, however if you missed those you could easily loose a ball as it disappeared into the grass.  If you did find it, then playing a shot out of the rough was often difficult to say the least.

The greens were fast and several of us found it difficult to read them and judge the pace, the captain taking at least 6 puts on one hole!  For once David Leak did not win the putting and gave up counting, perhaps his encounter with the ladies put him off!

One of the most welcome sights was by the 10th tee where there was a water cooler filled with ice water, so we all re-filled water bottles and enjoyed some cold water for a couple of holes.

Once again we all managed to stay reasonably close as groups although the first group did end up with over a clear hole back to the second group, probably because we just gave up looking for balls.

The star of the first nine was Antony (Humph) Harker who blitzed these first holes scoring 20 Stapleford points, however he then blew up in the heat and only managed 5 on the second nine.

Once the golf was finished we enjoyed a very good chicken, bacon and sweetcorn pie with veggies and chips.  This was followed by a delicious chocolate birthday cake, courtesy of the captain, with cream and coffee.  All in all a hot but extremely good day of golf.

So to the results, blow are the top three in each category the full results being in the results section elsewhere on the site.
