Shrivenham Park AwayDay - Aug 2024

24 hungry but excited golfers arrived at Shrivenham Park Golf Club to be greeted by the lovely team there and the usual coffee and bacon rolls
The Tipple on the Tee
.
We headed out to the putting green and then onto the first tee for the traditional pre-game tipple. Talisker Single Malt kindly provided by last months Away Day winner Andrew Shepheard.

Then it was onto the course in six groups 4 balls for our individual and team competition.
Some interesting drives off the first tee in breezy conditions.  The leaves that had fallen in the wind also made finding your ball a bit challenging both on and off the fairways. The course was decent condition, not much water at Shrivenham but lots of trees (I think I found most of them) and some tricky cambers and slopes on some of the longer holes which would send a straight drive off down to the left (or right) depending on the slope if you were unlucky.

Most Golf - Rob Lindley
Some decent scoring (especially on the Back 9) with 8 golfers scoring 36 points or more.

The results (see full link below) were as follows:

Most golf played (with 22 points and winning a bottle of wine) – me (Rob Lindley) - too many lost balls in the trees especially on the front 9 where I only managed 10 points.  I will supply the wine for the next Away Day .

NTP Winner - Andrew Shepheard
Nearest the pin – no one got on the green until the last two groups.  The 15th hole was playing a little long into the wind and I (and others) were just short.  Eventually Graham Plested got one on the green only to be pipped at the post by Andrew Shepheard. Andrew won £10 and a sleeve of balls.

1st Chris Smyth - 43 Points

Overall Stableford Competition

In joint fifth place with a score of 37 points were John Scoble and Arthur Strain
Fourth place went to Brian Wray with 38.
We had another tie for first place with 43 points between Chris Smyth and Graham Harding.  So we went to countback over the back 9 holes and in the end the 1, 2, 3 was:

Chris Smyth – 43 points (22 on the back 9)
Graham Harding – 43 points (21 on the back 9)
Malcolm Peck – 39 points

So Chris wins £20 plus a sleeve of balls, the TOFS trophy and a beautifully printed winners certificate (to follow)!!

3rd Malcom Peck - 39 Points
2nd Graham Harding - 43 Points
Chris joins Andrew Shepheard, Alex, John Smythe and myself as winners so far receiving a 2 handicap reduction for the remaining Away Days for this year and he also gets to supply the tipple on the tee for next time.

Team Competition

In the Team Competition it was hotly contested with the Par 3s making all the difference.

Overall Results

Team Shepheard (Andrew, Derek, Graham H, Malcolm) - 114 points
Team Wooldridge (Lee, Chris S, Pete S, Brian Wh) - 112 pts
Team Wray (Brian, John Sm, David R, Chris M) - 106 pts
Team Strain (Arthur, Brian M, Paul W, Gavin) - 105 pts
Team Lindley (Rob, Dave B, John Sc, Colin) - 103 pts

So Andrew and his team walked away with the 4 ball voucher for Brome Manor.

The day was rounded off by a gourmet burger and chips supplied by Molly and her team.

Hope you all had a good day.

Next Away Day is Hinksey Heights,Tuesday 17th September.  Lots of slopes and cambers and usually breezy with some great views above Oxford.

See you soon and happy golfing!
