Pars and Better - Jan/Feb 2024

So we managed to squeeze one more round in and were greeted with a still, dry day and decent scoring conditions at Drayton Park GC. After a tough competition and some ding dong battles I am delighted to announce that the winner of the Pars or Better Competition is …
Graham Plested!!! (Winning £15 and a sleeve of balls for his efforts). Graham remained  points clear and even a late rally by Steve B couldn’t catch him. Below is the Top 10 table after nine rounds

In the battle for second place it was a close run thing with Lee drawing level with a birdie on 13, but Steve Bury then parring 3 out of the last 5 holes sealed the deal with another great round of 79 shots. Steve wins £10 for 2nd place and Lee £5 for 3rd.

In the battle for the minor places Steve Gray looked like he was going to snatch it from Dave Bolus as he was one point ahead after a great par on 15, but it ended in heartbreak for Steve as Dave somehow pulled off a birdie on 16 after finding his ball which had gone way to the right off the tee (we were about to declare it lost when I almost stood on it) and then pulling off an impossible approach shot to about 2 feet from the hole which gave him 3 points for the birdie and 4th spot in the league.  (That and £2.50 will get you a cup of coffee at Drayton Park Dave).
