Badgemore Park AwayDay - Nov 2022

Fourteen of us made it to Badgemore and it was well worth the second attempt. The sun was shining, the course was in superb condition and the post-match steak and ale pie was worth a Michelin star (almost).

Our scores did not do justice to the great conditions. Having negotiated the high hedge at the first, the fairways opened up but the par 4s were either long or dog-legged and the greens unpredictable. There were more Stableford scores in the twenties than the thirties.

One man, Dick Capel Davies mastered the conditions to take the Best Stableford trophy. I was in Dick’s group and he consistently out drove us with just his 3 wood – straight and true. His 35 points was two points ahead of the field and if he had not been humbled, like the rest of us by the tricky greens he would have scored in the 40s.

Brian M won Nearest the Pin and shared the birdie bonus pot with Clifford. Brian is making such a habit of featuring on the NTP marker, home and away that his name is on with an indelible marker.

And talking of habits, Terry Stacey once again took the Lowest Number of Putts prize. I think you’ve built a homing device into that plaque Terry. Even on a bad day, (for you) with 33 putts it returns to your mantelpiece.

But the real competition was a race to the bottom for the Most Golf Played. Frank Parnell and Chris Smyth both managed 24 points only to be separated by a second count back on the worst back six. Chris the ultimate winner (?), did the walk of shame to pick up the bottle of Malbec.

Congratulations to all,

Alex
