Tipple on the Tee |
Eighteen of us negotiated the vagaries of the new Oxford LTNS (that’s the official euphemistic acronym for the Low Traffic Neighbourhood System), only to find that two of our members hadn’t even got that far. Steve and Rob were kyboshed by an overturned lorry on the A34 and only Steve made it after executing U turn up a slip road. We’ve all seen you drive magnificently down the fairway Steve, but the wrong way up a slip road ???
Rob was not so lucky and had to turn back to Hampshire. All he had to show for his efforts was “120 miles and a sore bum” (his words not mine). We missed you Rob and I can’t even tell you who owes you a bacon bap.
Humph’s Famous Grouse tipple got us swinging and by the 3rd hole I was tempted to take another swig. Although well kept, the contouring of the greens was treacherous and the slope of the fairways didn’t favour us slicers. Only two played to their handicap – Graham Harding and Eric Jackson finished on 36 Stableford points with Graham clinching victory on a countback.
The Lowest Putts reflected the challenge of those rolling greens and it was Arthur Strain who managed it with only 30. That’s going some Arthur – a couple in our group had reached that number by about the 12th hole!
Humph Harker played the shot of a tour pro to take Nearest the Pin on the 8th. What a turnaround from Kirtlington where he Played the Most Golf. He handed that honour to Paul Wynn on 22 Stableford points. Paul you just spared my blushes as I halved my points from Kirtlington with a shameful 24.
