TOFS AGM Tuesday 18th January 2022 - Minutes

 1. Dave Bolus gave a brief summary of the activities for the two years he has been captain and was applauded for his efforts in running the Away Days and the introduction of a range of new competitions. Thank you Dave - you’re a hard act to follow.

2. Alex Fraser was elected Captain and Steve Bury Vice Captain.

3. Away Days.

The price of Away Days is increasing. This year the most expensive will be £49 per head, including a couple of pounds for prizes, with the average at around £44. Virtually all clubs ask for a deposit, usually £100 to secure the booking. Add to this the cost of buying logoed balls for prizes and a float of up to £1,000 is needed.

It was agreed that each member attending Away Days would pay a £40 deposit at the beginning of the year. This is voluntary and would be refundable if requested. I will circulate bank transfer details.

Prizes awarded at Awaydays will remain the same except that the Hole in Two will be scrapped and a new monthly price for the Monthly Major (see below), will be added.

4. Slow Play

It was agreed that every effort would be made to speed up play in line with the Ready Golf guidance and the Rules of Golf. In particular:

  • a player should play his shot before helping to look for a partner’s ball,

  • If a group falls more than one hole behind the players in front, they should allow the following group to play through.

5. Competitions

I proposed that we repeat the five competitions we ran last year – Matchplay Singles and Doubles, Eclectic, Triples and Texas Pairs, with the following adaptions:

  • The Singles Matchplay would use a random pairing for a match rather than the Round Robin format used last year.

  • The Triples would be made up of your best 1-6, 7-12, 13-18 holes, rather than best front nine and best back nine.

There will be a new Stableford competition starting today (Tuesday). I will email details separately.

A Monthly Major award will be introduced which will cover performance in all competitions and Awaydays running that month. Points will be awarded to the top ten players on each Tuesday and Friday with ten points to the top player through to one point for the tenth. At the end of the month, which will usually fall on the Friday preceding the Awayday, points will be tallied and the winner will be awarded the Monthly Major prize. Points will be cumulative throughout the year and an ultimate winner for 2022 (title TBA, any suggestions?), will be announced at the Hadden Hill Awayday.

6. TOFS Website

A big round of applause for Graham Plested’s management of the website, the competitions and the tee times. We must have the UK’s best society website.

7. TOFS New Member Restrictions

It was agreed that new members should be made aware that, in the event that we exceed the limit of 32 players for our eight allocated tee times on Tuesdays, then long standing members would be given priority.

8. Load of Old Balls

I can sell any old golf balls you have with the proceeds going to top up our prize fund. There will be a prize for the most collected. I will issue a separate note on this.
