We started with the usual bacon rolls and coffee and several people felt that it was the best away day coffee this year. After enjoying this we proceeded to the first tee, having decided that we would have four groups of three. This time we were able to go off ahead of our booked tee time, for a change, as the mist had detered members from playing.
The course was interesting with some very tight greens surrounded by trees and/or water (the later not always marked with hazard posts). The fairways were patchy as they were still recovering from the dry summer. However it also made it very difficult to be sure when you were on the fairway (and winter rules applied) and when you weren't. Still in good TOFS golfing tradition we assumed we were on a fairway unless it was very obvious that we weren't!
It was useful having a map on the score card as it wasn't always clear where the next tee was. Still no group got lost although the third group were quite slow and we were waitng for quite a while, whilst enjoying the sunshine. Other notable happenings, were Dave Leak managing to lose a ball on each of the first two holes and then parring the next three, before making a birdie on the 6th with his nearest the pin effort. Your captain managed to find some water, that wasn't marked, on the 11th having hit 2 very good shots (for him), it was quite a surprise to find that the ball was nowhere to be seen and water where the ball should have been!
Once all in we enjoyed our Chicken and leak pie with peas & chips (there were extra chips here) in the club house, once again another good day out.
So to the results, below are the top three in each category the full results being in the results section elsewhere on the site. Terry Stacey ended up with the trophy as he was second but Dave Bolus won the trophy last time out and was therefore not entitled to it again this year. The putting was won by Alex Fraser, whilst Graham Plested walked off with the nearest the pin.
Stableford & TOFs trophy results
- Dave Bolus with 41 points
- Terry Stacey with 39 points
- = Phil Edwards & Kevin Barnes with 33 points
- Alex Fraser with 32 puts
- = Clifford Bosley & Phil Edwards with 33 puts
- = Dave Bolus, Humph Harker, Terry Stacey & Brian White all with 34 puts
We had four chances here, however we still only had 5 people hitting the green in one, but they were closer than at Witney!
- Graham Plested with 1.3m
- Kevin Barnes with 1.6m
- Dave Leak with 3.6m
