The curse of Covid claimed both our captain and vice-captain and then road closures and dodgy sat nav instructions threatened further reductions, but eventually eighteen of us made it to the tipple on the first tee.
We played off temporary tees, placed some yards in front of the tee boxes which invalidated rounds for England Golf. Could the reduced yardage have favoured our winners? Reports from the front suggest otherwise … it was just good golf that got our winner Graham Harding 42 points and 40 points for 2nd placed Arthur Strain, closely followed by John Smythe with a credible 38 points.
Arthur also claimed the fewest putts prize (29), with Nearest the Pin going to Jim Hetherington. He’d just donned the sombrero for his Eclectic performance so this just confirmed his bandit status.
Most golf played was a tie between Peter Saunders and Steve Gray with Peter getting the bottle of wine on countback.
Congrats to all and thanks to Shrivenham for the hospitality and great ham, egg and chips.
