Tipple on the Tee |
It was the perfect day for golf. Clear skies, a light breeze and a mid twenties mercury reading. Humph was coitus interruptus, (last minute withdrawal) which left us with 17 to savour Peter Saunders’ ancient Benedictine to sweeten first tee nerves.
Broome Manor has wide fairways, greens that are straight and true and bunkers which were mostly G.U.R, all of which promised some pretty high Stableford scores.

Trophy Winner - Arthur |
 |
Highest Stableford - Rob |
And Arthur Strain did not disappoint. He was leader in the clubhouse with 45 points, contentedly sipping his lager as he measured himself for the green jacket, if not the bandit’s sombrero. But the penultimate fourball had other plans. Rob Lindley romped home with a staggering 47 points. It was Rob’s second win on tour so he graciously passed the trophy to Arthur, but retained the prize money, the glory and a 4 point reduction in his handicap from England Golf.

Lowest Putts - Terry |
 |
NTP - Dave R. |
Dave Roberts claimed the nearest to the pin prize and Terry Stacey the least putts. With 26 putts he equals our record held by Dave Bolus and apparently claims the putting cup – “he who makes the cup makes the rules” they say.

Eagle - Clifford |
And the to cap it all, there was a rare bird on one of the par fours. An EAGLE. Clifford’s long drive down the middle was followed by a 110 yard 9 iron – one bounce and into the hole!
Well done Clifford.
