Our November away day took us to Hennerton Golf Club, just over the border in neighbouring Berkshire, reached by crossing over the Thames in Henley. A new course to explore for the TOFS Society.
23 TOFS made their way to Hennerton with quite a few getting delayed by traffic congestion in Henley, but all finally arriving in good time. We all met in their attractive clubhouse and this time started with a Mince Pie and coffee as we were having their Christmas Special day fare!
As the course was new to us and there were quite a few Par 3’s, we decided to slightly change the prize money format to accommodate the higher number than normal anticipated Hole in 2‘s. We also double checked our handicaps as the course was rated easier than DPGC.
We then set off to get ready in the crisp autumn sun for our “Tipple on the Tee”, this time a nice red port kindly provided by John.
A few practise swings and putts later we then set out in 6 groups. Hennerton is described as a course with the beauty of the countryside and the advantages made of the natural variation of the hills and the valley in the design of the course. Players of all standards are smitten with the course’s challenges which are only topped by the outstanding views of the Thames Valley.
It proved to be so true with stunning views and some great par 3’s played across valleys and down steep hills. It provided quite a good cardio workout as well in getting back up the hills and it was a little heavy underfoot at times, but all the greens were in excellent condition.

Winner - Brian Monnery |
And now to the prize giving.
Most of the scores were in the 30’s with 3 scores of 39 for 2nd place, Graham H, Eric J and Terry R, but our winner with 40 points for the TOFS Trophy was Brian M. Brian picks up the TOFS Trophy, £10 and a pack of TOFS 2021 Golf Balls. Don’t forget the winners “away day handicap “will also be reduced by 2 for the last day out this year.![]() |
Lowest Putts & NTP Graham Plested |
We only had two players hitting the green for NTP on Hole 9. These were Frank and Graham P, with Graham being the closer. Graham picks up another £10.
As anticipated, but
none the less surprising, we had a number of Hole in 2’s! In fact
8 in all, these being Derek, Humph, Ian, Terry S, Mike, Arthur and
Brian W (twice!). As I didn’t have a pocket full of £1 coins
there are all awarded a £2 credit for their next away day.2s Winners
And finally the days special prize, a bottle of wine, sponsored by Rob S for “Most Golf Played”. And the winner was (again) Clifford with just 20 points (a record perhaps?).
