Badgemore Park Away Day - 8th Sept 2020

It was so great that finally the TOFS were able to venture out to another course since the Covid-19 restrictions imposed from March 2020.

Also great to see some of our newer members, Steve B, Davide C, Arthur PUSB S, David R and Paul W join us for the first time. I hope you all enjoyed your day out with your new golfing friends and colleagues.

As usual the weather was perfect all day for playing Golf, a bit cloudy at the start but blazing sunshine later on.

A good turnout of 17 TOFS met at 10am for our customary coffee and bacon rolls, this time served outside at the halfway house , prior to getting our golfing gear and gathering at the first tee.

1st Tee Tipple - Thanks Brian

We had our usual “Tipple on the Tee”, kindly provided this time by Brian White. A 12 year old Canadian Club Whisky that he found in his golf bag. I really liked it, very smooth.

After a few practise swings and putts we then set out in 3 groups of 3 and 2 groups of 4 to explore the Badgemore course.

The whole course was in excellent condition but they had set out to confuse those who had played there before by moving the 1^st green to the left of the fairway when it used to be a dog leg right, and a bit later on players were seen to be puzzling over the distance to the green, ( on the 5^th I think) where the Garmins were saying 130 to the middle of the green yet it looked a good 200 yards.

We all slowly regrouped back at the clubhouse courtyard for a natter where we enjoyed a drink and BBQ and totted up the scores.

The results were generally pretty good, with quite a few in the thirties for the stableford and mid thirties for the number of putts.

TOFS Trophy - Mark Wright

he winner of the TOFS Trophy and stableford on the day was Mark Wright with an excellent 38 points, the same winning score as last year’s winner here. Mark won £12 and a 3 pack of shiny new special edition embossed TOFS 2020 golf balls. Don’t forget the winners “away day handicap “will be reduced by 2 for the subsequent days out !

Least Putts - Paul Wynn

The winner of the lowest number of putts, with a very impressive low score of 29, was Paul Wynn. It’s clear that Paul has been coached by Terry Stacy in the art of landing your approach shot just on the greens fringe near to the pin! For this Paul won £11.

For the “Nearest the Pin” competition, as all the par 3’s were quite long, hole number 17 was chosen as being the lowest SI on the back 9 and where everyone would be warmed up and have their eye in. From the long list of names on the NTP Marker (j/k) Mark Wright was declared the winner. For this Mark was awarded £11, so a good all round day for Mark.

Most Golf - Humph Harker

And finally the days special prize, sponsored by Clifford B, for Most Golf Played , was awarded to Humph, who is graciously asked to provide a similar tincture for the next away days special prize winner.
